Moments from the Joint South East Asia Voting Group (SEAVG) Governors Meeting

Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and Dr. Piti Disyatat, Deputy Governor for Monetary Stability of the Bank of Thailand and Alternate Governor of the Fund, participated in the 57th Joint Meeting of the IMF–World Bank Group SEAVG Governors’ Meeting, alongside finance ministers, central bank governors, and representatives from member countries across the region.

As Chair of the meeting, Dr. Ekniti delivered the opening remarks and joined discussions on the global economic outlook, the progress of operations and reforms at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), as well as key economic and financial issues facing the region. Dr. Piti also contributed to the discussions.

The program also featured an Executive Dialogue Session on “Labor Markets in Asia: Challenges and Opportunities in the AI Era,” presented by senior officials from the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department. The session provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the impact of AI on labor markets, future skills requirements, and how countries across the region are adapting to these changes.

In addition, during the SEAVG meeting luncheon, Dr. Ekniti held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Suahasil Nazara, Minister of Finance of Indonesia, to strengthen bilateral ties and promote economic cooperation between the two countries. The discussion covered trade and investment connectivity, enhancing competitiveness, and creating opportunities for shared economic growth, as well as strengthening regional connectivity and economic resilience across ASEAN.
